Stop Human Trafficking
Our position, the signs to look for, and how to report a concern.
City Desires exists for consenting adults. Nobody under 18 appears on this website. Nobody who has been forced appears on this website. Every arrangement is between adults who have each chosen to be there.
There is no version of this business that works any other way, and we would rather lose a listing than keep one we are unsure about.
Before a profile goes live
What do we actually check?
Three things. We have set them out plainly rather than claiming more than we do.
We ask her directly
We speak to her ourselves and ask whether she wants to work and whether she agrees to be listed here. If the answer comes from somebody else, that is not consent.
We confirm she is 18 or above
Nobody under 18 is listed, in any circumstance, for any reason. If we are not satisfied about age, the profile does not go up.
She can leave whenever she wants
Agreeing once is not agreeing forever. She can ask to be removed at any time, without giving a reason, and we take the listing down.
We are a small Mumbai operation, not a verification agency, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we do is ask, confirm age, and act on anything we are told. If you believe we have got something wrong, tell us and we will look at it.
Recognising it
What are the signs somebody may not be there by choice?
Trafficking rarely looks dramatic. It usually looks like somebody who is not quite free to answer for herself. Any one of these is worth paying attention to.
- Somebody else answers every question for her, or stays on the call throughout
- She cannot say where she is, or cannot leave on her own
- She does not hold her own phone, her own money or her own documents
- Her answers sound rehearsed, or change when the other person is not listening
- Details about her age keep shifting, or she looks younger than she says
- She seems frightened of a particular person, or checks with them before replying
- She says she cannot keep what she earns, or owes money she cannot explain
- She is moved frequently between places and does not know where she is going next
You do not need to be certain, and it is not your job to investigate. If something feels wrong, say so to somebody who can look into it.
How do you report a concern?
If somebody is in immediate danger, ring 112 first. Everything else can follow.
You do not have to give your name to any of these, including us. A report without a name is still a report, and we would far rather have it than not.
After a report
What happens once you tell us?
Four things, in this order. We have kept this to what we can genuinely do.
- 1
We read it the same day
Reports go to one inbox that we check ourselves. Nobody else sees them.
- 2
The listing comes down
Straight away, while we look into it. We would rather remove a genuine listing by mistake than leave a wrong one up.
- 3
We contact her directly
On her own, away from anybody else, and we ask her plainly.
- 4
If there is any doubt, we report it
To the police, and the listing stays down. We are not equipped to investigate and we will not try.
We cannot promise an outcome and we will not pretend to. What we can promise is that a report is read, the listing comes down while we look, and nothing is ignored.
Consent is the whole thing
Every adult listed here chose to be. She may stop, decline or leave at any point, for any reason, without explaining herself to anybody, including us. That decision is final and we will back it, every time.
If you take one thing from this page, take that. Anything arranged through this website only works if both people want to be there.
Our full position is set out in our Terms and Conditions and our 18+ Disclaimer.
